What if there’s another way to be with horses?

A way where kindness isn’t mistaken for weakness.

  1. Where you don’t have to defend yourself for being “too soft”, because compassion for the horse is something we value, not something we apologise for.

  2. Where the horse comes first. Where progress and performance are never more important than their wellbeing or the relationship you’re building together.

  3. Where the goal isn’t simply to make your horse participate, but to create a relationship where they want to be with you, learn with you and say yes.

  4. Where kindness doesn’t mean having no boundaries. You can communicate clearly, keep yourself safe and guide your horse, without sacrificing trust or willingness.

And where you’re surrounded by people who are asking the same questions you are...

because you shouldn’t have to walk this path alone.

That’s what The Liberty Herd is about.

Everything you get for just $9/month

“Nadine truly makes learning fun! Her way of explaining things, no matter how ‘simple’ or ‘complicated’ is clear and concise, and she makes sitting down to her course fun, engaging and so rewarding! Since starting the course, I have gained a whole different mindset that I have been able to apply when working with both Levi and other horses.

I cannot recommend to people enough that if they get the chance to work with, learn from or just be around Nadine, it is truly worth your time!”

Why The Liberty Herd is only $9/month

When I first began exploring liberty, I often felt like I was doing it alone.

I was told I was too soft. That I needed to be firmer. That I was letting my horses get away with too much.

I knew I wanted something different, but it wasn’t always easy to find people who saw horses the way I did.

That’s why I created The Liberty Herd. It is the community I wish I had.

And that’s why I’ve intentionally made it only $9/month. Not because what’s inside is only worth $9, but because I want it to be accessible to as many horse people as possible.

Because the more people who join the Herd, the more connections we can make, the more experiences we can share, and the more we can learn from each other.

And ultimately, the more horses and humans we can help.

Your Intro Course - Essence of Connection

Your starting point for a different way of working with your horse.

Maybe you know you want your horse to have more of a voice. You want training to feel like something you do with your horse rather than to them. But what does that actually look like?

Essence of Connection is where we start.

This introductory course takes you through some of the foundations I use with every horse, helping you understand what your horse is communicating, create genuine relaxation and connection, and begin building a horse who doesn’t just comply, but actively participates in the process.

  1. Start by listening

Before we ask the horse to do anything, we learn to listen.

You’ll learn how to notice the subtle ways your horse communicates yes, no, not yet and I’d like more of that.

You’ll also learn to recognise the difference between a horse who is genuinely calm and relaxed and one who appears quiet because they’ve simply stopped responding.

  2. Discover the power of touch

Touch can be so much more than grooming or affection.

You’ll learn how I use Intentional Touch to help horses relax, build trust and become more aware of their own bodies, while learning to notice the tiny responses that tell you how your horse is really feeling.

  3. Introduce food rewards with calmness and relaxation

Food can be an incredible tool for motivation, communication and learning when it’s introduced thoughtfully.

I’ll show you how to establish the foundations for using rewards while encouraging calmness around food, creating clear start and end points to your sessions, and allowing your horse to become an active participant in your conversation.

Because ultimately, the goal isn’t simply to have a horse who does what you ask.

It’s to create the foundations for a horse who understands, feels heard and increasingly wants to participate with you.

But The Liberty Herd isn’t just a course with a comment section attached.

The community is the heart of it.

Four spaces inside, depending on what the day calls for: a question, a win worth sharing, a chat about nothing in particular, or someone near you.

Three women sitting around an outdoor table under a leafy pergola, talking over mugs, notebooks and a pile of horse books

Ask The Herd

Something happened with your horse and you’re not quite sure what to make of it?

Bring it to the Herd.

Share what happened, hear different perspectives and learn from the experiences of other horse people.

Celebrations

This might be my favourite part, because not everything needs to be a problem that needs solving.

Tell us when your horse finally chose to come over. When something clicked. When you had the loveliest little session. When you tried something new.

Or when your horse did something so ridiculous that you simply need other horse people to appreciate it.

The little things matter here.

Herd Chit Chat

Sometimes you just want to talk horses. No training question required.

Share something interesting. Start a conversation. Show us a photo. Ask what everyone thinks.

This is your general horsey corner of the Herd.

A woman crouching low in the morning mist while a grey horse lowers its head towards her

Find Your Herd

This is one of the things I’m most excited about.

Add yourself to our map and discover other Herd members around the world. You might even discover someone nearby.

Because although The Liberty Herd lives online...

I hope some of the friendships created here won’t.

Maybe it starts with a comment. Then a message. Then a coffee, a trail ride, a training day or simply having another horse person nearby who gets it.

I don’t just want to build another online community. I want to help horse people find each other.

A Community Where Every Win Gets Celebrated

When you join The Liberty Herd, you gain access to our exclusive private community, where you can ask questions, share your journey, and receive support from fellow members who truly understand this way of working with horses.

Our Celebrations channel is a space to share wins and small glimmers from the week. These celebrations help build confidence, motivation, and awareness of progress.

Most importantly, the Herd community is a safe, kind, and judgement-free space, for both you and your horse.

Dr. Nadine Lindblom

Equine veterinarian, educator, lifelong horse nerd

Hi, I’m Nadine

I think I’ve always been looking for another way.

I’m an equine veterinarian, educator, lifelong horse nerd, and the person behind The Liberty Herd.

I was the only horse-obsessed person in my family.

When I was seven, my parents took our family sailing around the world for three years, and somehow, wherever we went, I managed to find the horses.

Eventually I got my own pony, Twinkles.

I had this picture in my head of her galloping across the paddock to see me and practically putting her own head into the halter.

That was... not quite what happened.

She ran away from me. She bit. She sometimes tried to kick me.

And the answer I was given was pretty simple:

I needed to show her who was boss.

So I learned how.

And it worked.

But I remember having this uncomfortable feeling that if I had to make my pony stay with me...

did she actually want to be there?

I wanted a real yes.

That question changed everything.

It eventually led me into liberty training, positive reinforcement, behaviour, biomechanics and veterinary medicine.

And the more I learned, the more I realised that there wasn’t one perfect method containing all the answers.

There were just better questions.

What is this horse telling me?

How are they feeling?

What motivates them?

What happens if I wait?

What happens if I listen?

Eventually I started sharing what I was learning online.

And something happened that I really didn’t expect.

People from all over the world started saying:

“Me too.”

They had been asking these questions as well.

That eventually grew into the Essence of Liberty Academy and a community of more than 1,000 horse people from around the world.

And watching that community grow made something very clear to me.

People weren’t only learning from me.

They were learning from each other.

They were answering each other’s questions. Encouraging each other. Celebrating each other. Sharing experiences I could never personally provide.

And forming friendships.

I wanted to create somewhere that could make that available to many more horse people.

And so...

The Liberty Herd was born.

What’s the difference between The Liberty Herd and the Essence of Liberty Academy?

The Essence of Connection, Where Liberty Begins, over a photo of Nadine resting her forehead against her dark horse’s face with her eyes closed

The Liberty Herd

Think of The Liberty Herd as the wider community and your place to begin.

You don’t need to be an Academy member to belong in the Herd.

The Essence of Liberty Academy is where we go much deeper.

5 simple ways you can start in the Herd today

Joining a new community can feel a little bit like walking into a party where you don’t know anyone yet.

So we’ve made it easy.

  1. Create your profile

Tell us about yourself and, much more importantly, introduce us to your horse.

  2. Come and say hello

    Introduce yourself to the Herd.

You don’t need an impressive story.

    Just come as you are.

  3. Put yourself on the map

Add your pin to Find Your Herd and see who else is around.

    You might be surprised.

  4. Start Essence of Connection

Begin exploring the course and try the ideas with your own horse.

  5. Have a wander

Join a conversation. Listen to a podcast. Celebrate someone’s win. Explore an Academy lesson. Ask the Herd a question.

Or just have a scroll around and get to know everyone first.

Take it at your own pace. Go slow to go fast. There’s no right way to be part of the Herd.

Are you wondering if the Liberty Herd is right for you?

You’ll probably feel at home here if...

  • You’re curious about what your horse is communicating.
  • You want your horse to have more of a voice in your relationship.
  • You sometimes question things you’ve always been taught.
  • You want practical alternatives to simply increasing pressure.
  • You’re interested in behaviour, training, connection and why horses do the things they do.
  • You enjoy hearing perspectives that might be different from your own.
  • You want a community that is supportive rather than competitive.
  • You like celebrating other people’s progress as much as your own.
  • And you’re willing to stay curious, even when there isn’t one perfect answer.

The Herd probably won’t be the right fit if...

  • You’re looking for a formula that tells you exactly what every horse should do.
  • You believe a horse saying “no” is automatically something that needs to be corrected.
  • You’re only interested in the fastest possible result, regardless of the horse’s experience.
  • Or you need everyone around you to approach horses exactly the same way you do.

The Liberty Herd isn’t about replacing one rigid way of thinking with another.

It’s about becoming more curious, thoughtful and responsive to the individual horse in front of us.

If you’re ready to stay curious, stay compassionate, and keep exploring the possibilities with your horse, you’ll feel right at home here.

A few questions you might have...

Nadine sitting in the sand beside her horse, who is lying flat out and completely relaxed

Not at all.

You might have years of experience, or you might simply have a feeling that you’d like to explore something different and have absolutely no idea where to begin.

Both are welcome.

Come curious. That’s enough.

Please don’t.

I don’t want The Liberty Herd to become another little corner of the horse world where everyone has to think exactly the same way.

I want thoughtful conversations.

I want us to ask questions.

I want us to learn from each other.

What matters is that those conversations remain kind, curious and respectful, towards both horses and humans.

No.

This isn’t about passing a purity test.

What matters far more is being willing to notice how our horses respond, question what we’re doing and remain curious about whether there might be another way.

You’re definitely not alone.

Using food well involves more than simply handing over treats for behaviour.

That’s one of the things we begin exploring inside Essence of Connection, including calmness around food and creating a clear Reward Zone.

Then they’ve given you information.

The interesting part is working out what that information means.

Do they understand?

Are they worried?

Is something physically difficult?

Was the question unclear?

Would changing something help?

Or do they simply not want to right now?

There isn’t one answer that applies to every horse or every situation.

Learning to notice the difference is part of the journey.

As much or as little as you want.

Work through Essence of Connection at your own pace.

Drop into the community when you have a question.

Watch an Academy lesson when something catches your interest.

Listen to a podcast while you’re driving.

Disappear for a busy week and come back when life settles down.

There’s nothing to keep up with.

The Liberty Herd is primarily a peer-to-peer community, so individual questions aren’t guaranteed to be answered by me.

You’ll learn from me through Essence of Connection, exclusive podcast episodes and rotating Academy lessons, and I may occasionally join conversations in the wider Herd.

If you’d like direct access to me for your individual training questions, that’s available to members of the Essence of Liberty Academy through the Academy Inner Circle.

Absolutely.

There’s no long-term commitment.

Maybe you’re here for the Intro Course

or you want to understand your horse better

or you’ve started questioning some of the things you were taught... and want somewhere to explore what else might be possible

Or maybe you’re simply looking for others who understand why all of this matters so much to you

Whichever brings you through the gate... I hope you find more than you expected here

The Essence of Connection changes some of the little things you notice when you’re with your horse

The “Ask The Herd” channel gives you answers whenever you need it

A podcast episode makes you think about something you’ve never noticed before

And I hope that somewhere along the way, a username becomes a familiar face... and maybe even a friend

Because ultimately, that’s what I want The Liberty Herd to be

A place for horses

A place for learning

A place for us to find each other

Whatever you choose, I’m really glad you’re here. I’d like to invite you to join me on this journey as a student of the horse
