What if there’s another way to teach your horse?

A way where your horse gets to have a voice.

Where you become more curious about what a “no” might mean.

Where you learn to recognise the difference between genuine relaxation and a horse who has simply stopped responding.

Where rewards can be used thoughtfully without everything becoming about food.

Where you can still communicate clearly and have boundaries while remaining curious about how your horse feels.

And where the goal isn’t simply to get the behaviour...

but to understand the horse underneath it.

That’s what we begin exploring inside Essence of Connection Intro Course

Learning is better when you have people to share it with.

Essence of Connection gives you somewhere to start.

The Liberty Herd gives you somewhere to belong while you keep going.

Because once you start asking different questions about horses, something interesting happens.

You usually end up with even more questions.

Am I reading this correctly?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Should I wait? Ask again? Change something?

Is my horse relaxed or have they just checked out?

Does anyone else’s horse turn into a tiny food-obsessed dragon when food rewards appear? 😂

And sometimes you don’t need another lesson.

You need another horse person.

Someone who can say:

“Mine did that too.”

“This is what helped us.”

“Have you considered this?”

Or simply:

“I get it.”

That’s what I want The Liberty Herd to be.

Take a look inside the Herd

The Liberty Herd isn’t another course with a comment section attached.

The community is the heart of it.

Three women sitting around an outdoor table under a leafy pergola, talking over mugs, notebooks and a pile of horse books

Ask The Herd

Something happened with your horse and you’re not quite sure what to make of it?

Bring it to the Herd.

Share what happened, hear different perspectives and learn from the experiences of other horse people.

Celebrations

This might be my favourite part, because not everything needs to be a problem that needs solving.

Tell us when your horse finally chose to come over. When something clicked. When you had the loveliest little session. When you tried something new.

Or when your horse did something so ridiculous that you simply need other horse people to appreciate it.

The little things matter here.

A woman kneeling in golden evening light, smiling, as her dark horse reaches down to touch her face

Herd Chit Chat

Sometimes you just want to talk horses. No training question required.

Share something interesting. Start a conversation. Show us a photo. Ask what everyone thinks.

This is your general horsey corner of the Herd.

Find Your Herd

This is one of the things I’m most excited about.

Add yourself to our map and discover other Herd members around the world. You might even discover someone nearby.

Because although The Liberty Herd lives online...

I hope some of the friendships created here won’t.

Maybe it starts with a comment. Then a message. Then a coffee, a trail ride, a training day or simply having another horse person nearby who gets it.

I don’t just want to build another online community. I want to help horse people find each other.

A place for you to create real connections

We live in a world where almost anything we want to know is available in seconds. There’s more information, more content and more technology at our fingertips than ever before.

And there’s a lot that I love about that.

But I don’t think we always need more information.

Sometimes we need each other.

Someone who understands why that tiny moment with your horse made your entire week.

Someone who has struggled with the same question you’re struggling with now.

Someone on the other side of the world who can say:

“Mine did that too.”

There are some things technology simply can’t replace.

Being understood.

Sharing an experience.

Making a friend.

Feeling like you belong somewhere.

The Liberty Herd is a place for real people and their real horses to learn from each other, support each other, laugh together and share the journey.

Nadine as a girl in a wide-brimmed hat, leaning cheek to cheek with a bay pony

Dr. Nadine Lindblom

Equine veterinarian, educator, lifelong horse nerd

I think I’ve always been looking for another way.

Hi, I’m Nadine.

I’m an equine veterinarian, educator, lifelong horse nerd, and the person behind The Liberty Herd.

I was the only horse-obsessed person in my family.

When I was seven, my parents took our family sailing around the world for three years, and somehow, wherever we went, I managed to find the horses.

Eventually I got my own pony, Twinkles.

I had this picture in my head of her galloping across the paddock to see me and practically putting her own head into the halter.

That was... not quite what happened.

She ran away from me. She bit. She sometimes tried to kick me.

And the answer I was given was pretty simple:

I needed to show her who was boss.

So I learned how.

And it worked.

But I remember having this uncomfortable feeling that if I had to make my pony stay with me...

did she actually want to be there?

I wanted a real yes.

That question changed everything.

It eventually led me into liberty training, positive reinforcement, behaviour, biomechanics and veterinary medicine.

And the more I learned, the more I realised that there wasn’t one perfect method containing all the answers.

There were just better questions.

What is this horse telling me?

How are they feeling?

What motivates them?

What happens if I wait?

What happens if I listen?

Eventually I started sharing what I was learning online.

And something happened that I really didn’t expect.

People from all over the world started saying:

“Me too.”

They had been asking these questions as well.

That eventually grew into the Essence of Liberty Academy and a community of more than 1,000 horse people from around the world.

And watching that community grow made something very clear to me.

People weren’t only learning from me.

They were learning from each other.

They were answering each other’s questions. Encouraging each other. Celebrating each other. Sharing experiences I could never personally provide.

And forming friendships.

I wanted to create somewhere that could make that available to many more horse people.

And so...

The Liberty Herd was born.

We’re opening the doors with 1,000+ Founding Members from the Essence of Liberty Academy.

They are the horse people who have spent years learning together, encouraging each other, and showing me what a true herd looks like.

And now we’re opening the gates a little wider.

Why the true value of the Herd is learning from each other

I want to be clear about this because it matters to me.

The Liberty Herd isn’t designed around personal access to me.

It’s designed around connection with each other.

You’ll learn from me through Essence of Connection, the podcast episodes and the rotating Academy lessons included in your membership.

But the wider community is a place for members to share experiences, exchange ideas, ask questions and support one another.

I may pop into conversations from time to time, but individual questions inside the Herd aren’t guaranteed to be answered by me.

If you’re looking for direct access to me for your individual training questions, that’s available inside the Academy Inner Circle.

And I actually think this is part of what makes the Herd so valuable.

One person could never bring the experience of thousands of different horses, humans, backgrounds and perspectives.

A herd can.

What’s the difference between The Liberty Herd and the Essence of Liberty Academy?

Start here

The Liberty Herd

Think of The Liberty Herd as the wider community and your place to begin.

You don’t need to be an Academy member to belong in the Herd.

Go deeper

The Essence of Liberty Academy

The Essence of Liberty Academy is where we go much deeper.

It contains my comprehensive training curriculum and the Academy Inner Circle, where Academy members can bring their individual training questions directly to me.

And you don’t need to decide now whether you’ll ever want to go further.

Start here. Explore. Meet your people. See where it takes you.

Make yourself at home: 5 simple ways to start in the Herd

Joining a new community can feel a little bit like walking into a party where you don’t know anyone yet.

So we’ve made it easy.

  1. Create your profile

Tell us about yourself and, much more importantly, introduce us to your horse.

  2. Come and say hello

    Introduce yourself to the Herd.

You don’t need an impressive story.

    Just come as you are.

  3. Put yourself on the map

Add your pin to Find Your Herd and see who else is around.

    You might be surprised.

  4. Start Essence of Connection

Begin exploring the course and try the ideas with your own horse.

  5. Have a wander

Join a conversation. Listen to a podcast. Celebrate someone’s win. Explore an Academy lesson. Ask the Herd a question.

Or just have a scroll around and get to know everyone first.

Take it at your own pace. Go slow to go fast. There’s no right way to be part of the Herd.

Making connection accessible: why The Liberty Herd is $9/month

When I first began exploring liberty with my horses, the journey felt lonely. I wanted a place where people who shared these values could learn, connect and support one another. That’s one of the reasons I created The Liberty Herd.

I’ve intentionally kept it affordable because I want more horses and humans to experience what becomes possible when training is built on trust, understanding and choice.

And I want The Liberty Herd to actually feel like a herd.

  • I want the person who thinks nobody around them sees horses this way to discover that maybe someone does.
  • I want people from different countries, different backgrounds and different stages of their horse journey to be able to find each other.

And I don’t want cost to be the reason someone can’t be part of it.

The $9 price is intentional.

Not because I believe everything inside is only worth $9. But because I want this community to be accessible to as many horse people as possible.

Because the more people who join the Herd, the more experiences we can share.

The more connections we can make.

The more we can learn from each other.

And ultimately...

the more horses and humans we can help.

You’ll probably feel at home here if...

  • You’re curious about what your horse is communicating.
  • You want your horse to have more of a voice in your relationship.
  • You sometimes question things you’ve always been taught.
  • You want practical alternatives to simply increasing pressure.
  • You’re interested in behaviour, training, connection and why horses do the things they do.
  • You enjoy hearing perspectives that might be different from your own.
  • You want a community that is supportive rather than competitive.
  • You like celebrating other people’s progress as much as your own.
  • And you’re willing to stay curious, even when there isn’t one perfect answer.

The Herd probably won’t be the right fit if...

  • You’re looking for a formula that tells you exactly what every horse should do.
  • You believe a horse saying “no” is automatically something that needs to be corrected.
  • You’re only interested in the fastest possible result, regardless of the horse’s experience.
  • Or you need everyone around you to approach horses exactly the same way you do.

The Liberty Herd isn’t about replacing one rigid way of thinking with another.

It’s about becoming more curious, thoughtful and responsive to the individual horse in front of us.

If you’re ready to stay curious, stay compassionate, and keep exploring the possibilities with your horse, you’ll feel right at home here.

A few questions you might have...

Nadine sitting in the sand beside her horse, who is lying flat out and completely relaxed

Not at all.

You might have years of experience, or you might simply have a feeling that you’d like to explore something different and have absolutely no idea where to begin.

Both are welcome.

Come curious. That’s enough.

Please don’t.

I don’t want The Liberty Herd to become another little corner of the horse world where everyone has to think exactly the same way.

I want thoughtful conversations.

I want us to ask questions.

I want us to learn from each other.

What matters is that those conversations remain kind, curious and respectful, towards both horses and humans.

No.

This isn’t about passing a purity test.

What matters far more is being willing to notice how our horses respond, question what we’re doing and remain curious about whether there might be another way.

You’re definitely not alone.

Using food well involves more than simply handing over treats for behaviour.

That’s one of the things we begin exploring inside Essence of Connection, including calmness around food and creating a clear Reward Zone.

Then they’ve given you information.

The interesting part is working out what that information means.

Do they understand?

Are they worried?

Is something physically difficult?

Was the question unclear?

Would changing something help?

Or do they simply not want to right now?

There isn’t one answer that applies to every horse or every situation.

Learning to notice the difference is part of the journey.

As much or as little as you want.

Work through Essence of Connection at your own pace.

Drop into the community when you have a question.

Watch an Academy lesson when something catches your interest.

Listen to a podcast while you’re driving.

Disappear for a busy week and come back when life settles down.

There’s nothing to keep up with.

The Liberty Herd is primarily a peer-to-peer community, so individual questions aren’t guaranteed to be answered by me.

You’ll learn from me through Essence of Connection, exclusive podcast episodes and rotating Academy lessons, and I may occasionally join conversations in the wider Herd.

If you’d like direct access to me for your individual training questions, that’s available to members of the Essence of Liberty Academy through the Academy Inner Circle.

No.

I’ve intentionally kept the membership at $9 AUD/month instead.

You get access as a member from the moment you join, and you can cancel whenever you like.

Absolutely.

There’s no long-term commitment.

Maybe you came for the course.

Maybe you want to understand your horse better.

Maybe you’ve started questioning some of the things you were taught and want somewhere to explore what else might be possible.

Maybe you want new things to learn every month.

Or maybe you’re simply looking for horse people who understand why all of this matters so much to you.

Whatever brings you through the gate...

I hope you find more than you expected here.

I hope Essence of Connection changes some of the little things you notice when you’re with your horse.

I hope a podcast makes you think.

I hope an Academy lesson gives you something new to explore.

I hope someone answers a question when you need it.

I hope you celebrate somebody else’s breakthrough.

And I hope that somewhere along the way, a username becomes a familiar face...

and maybe even a friend.

Because ultimately, that’s what I want The Liberty Herd to be.

A place for horses.

A place for learning.

And a place for us to find each other.

Whatever you choose, I’m really glad you’re here. I’d like to invite you to join me on this journey as a student of the horse.
